The information we present during the course of The Big Book Lives On / Step'n Ahead into Emotional Sobriety workshop emanates from our experience with a subject related to that which Dr. William D. Silkworth, MD, suggested to be sometimes grave emotional and mental disorders as they are related to the spiritual disease of alcoholism.

That subject is The ISM Factor.  Our goal is to shed light upon this dilemma.

I conducted the first "Step'n Ahead into Emotional Sobriety" weekend workshop in the Midwest in the fall of 1990.  Since then I have been privileged to lead 125 weekend workshops to date. 

In 2000, my good and trusted friend, TJ M., volunteered to be of service as workshop co-leader, bringing his experience, strength and hope into the workshop, making it a we instead of me proposition. 

In 2007, Tina A. joined in to share her experience with the Big Book and emotional sobriety, substituting for TJ when he is unavailable.

The Big Book Lives On / Step'n Ahead into Emotional Sobriety workshop is an opportunity for alcoholics to identify, face and begin to resolve dangerous, potentially devastating areas of unmanageability directly attributable to The ISM Factor.

We investigated many areas to uncover this information, including the Washingtonian movement; the Emmanuel movement; the Oxford Groups; the history of AA; AA "conference approved" literature; and selected works and writings of non-alcoholic pioneer friends of AA. 

We share this information so alcoholics of our type have an opportunity to identify and in turn make an accurate self-diagnosis of their condition as it relates to The ISM Factor in alcoholism.

We pray The Big Book Lives On / Step'n Ahead into Emotional Sobriety workshop -- our notes, outlines, pictures and workshop CD's -- will inform, inspire and motivate those who are afflicted with or affected by the spiritual disease of alcoholism to take actions vital to recovery, actions they otherwise could not or perhaps would not consider taking.
